Its often hard to determine which pieces are authentic and which are reproductions. This can be especially difficult if you have developed a new love for Depression Glass. With a few good tips you will be able to navigate your way through this wonderful collectors hobby. This article will introduce you to collecting Depression Glass items.

Depression Glass gets it name from the time period in which it was produced. At the time this glass was used to make household glass items that were often very cheap due to their bubble and mold imperfections. The glass pieces came in different colors with pink, cobalt blue, and green being the most popular among collectors today. Popular lines of these products among todays collectors are Cameo, Mayfair, American Sweetheart, Princess, and Royal Lace.

Depression Glass items quickly became part of a way for businesses to sell their items during these difficult economic times. Many businesses would offer a free piece with the purchase of a certain number of items or place them inside laundry detergent boxes. You could even get these pieces as a bonus with movie tickets or an oil change! Because of this, there are a large variety and quantity of pieces available for collectors to find and purchase.

When you decide to start your Depression Glass collection you will need to do extensive research on these products and their prices. Buying a Depression Glass guide can make the research process much simpler. You can also attend conventions, collectors meetings, and make friends with others who participate in this hobby. Authenticity can be hard to determine because some of these pieces were never marked or sealed. Take care to learn the look of different lines and be aware of which lines have been repeatedly reproduced over the years. This will help you avoid being duped by fake items and incorrect pricing.

If you are interested in antiques but want more of a modern look, there are still collections out there for you. One of the most popular modern looking antique collections is Fiestaware. This article will introduce you to the history and collection of Fiestaware.

The history of Fiestaware began in 1936 with the Homer Laughlin Company of Newell, West Virginia. This company wanted to create an art deco type of piece for the dishware and china markets. The first lines produced had the original colors of yellow, ivory, red, blue, and light green. Over the years The glaze colors used were changed to signify new lines and special edition items. Fiestwares signature design is a concentric pair of rings on the outside of the dishes with the distance between rings being farther apart as they get close to the center.

When your identifying Fiestaware pieces there are several different ways to determine time period and authenticity. You may need a guide book to reference for this task. Fiestaware can be identified and valued by the color glaze used. Some glazes from the original line, and some with brief production are considered to be the most valuable for collections. Fiestaware also has logos stamped into the bottom of their pieces to identify time period and line. A small f marking or fiesta made in USA will signify very old vintage pieces. A large F or fiesta HCL USA marking will signify pieces created in the later 1900s. Make sure to inspect pieces for cracks or damages. They will reduce the value of your collection.

Where can you find and purchase Fiestaware pieces? You can try antique stores, auctions, and estate sales to obtain these pieces. It may be difficult to find a specific piece that you are looking for, or pay the price you want. Online auction sites and stores will increase the variety available for your purchases, and you may be able to get a deal when bidding. Two well loved sites for Fiestaware collectors are Rubylane.com and Replacements.com.

Being a collector or antique pottery can be a difficult task. There are many forgeries and reproductions on the market that closely resemble original pieces. This is especially true for antique Roseville Pottery. To determine the authenticity of Roseville Pottery, one needs to pay close attention to markings, quality, and time of production. This article will provide tips on how to avoid losing money on fakes and reproductions.

Before you attempt to buy any antique Roseville Pottery pieces there are a few things you can do. Its highly recommended that you purchase a buyers guide that has pictures and descriptions of authentic and original Roseville Pottery pieces. It will help you study the aspects of authentic pieces, and you can also use it to compare when youre buying in person. It will also help you to join a collectors association that meets regularly to discuss Roseville Pottery items and hold collectors auctions. You can become familiar with the look of pieces and learn about the experiences of other collectors.

Original Roseville Pottery will always come with one or more markings that signify its authenticity. The oldest Roseville pieces were often signed by their artists in a more hidden area. Later on, each piece was marked with Rv, Pinecone, or Roseville. These markings will also tell you what period of time they were produced in. This is mean a lot when determining the value of a piece. Fake pieces are often marked with the words Roseville USA, or not marked at all. Remember, if someone claims that the piece was made after 1950, it is definitely a fake. The company closed its doors at that time.

The quality of a Roseville Pottery piece can also be a telltale sign of its authenticity. The clay used in original pieces of Roseville had a natural color and could not be easily seen by the eye. Reproductions almost always use white colored clay that can often be easily seen. The quality of the glaze is another sign of a pieces authenticity. If the glaze on the piece has imperfections or looks cheap, than the piece is a fake. Roseville Pottery pieces were very carefully crafted with high quality glaze. If you have any doubts, it may be better to hold onto your money and look for a different piece!

Many collectors choose glass items because of their smooth and colorful beauty. A specific type of beautiful glassware that can be a great addition to any home is Murano Glass. They are well known for their exceptional vases. This article will introduce you to the history of Murano vases and their use for decoration.

The history of Murano glass goes back many centuries. A rich history of glass blowing artistry in Italy tells us of the movement of all glass blowing production to an island near Venice called Murano. The best glass blowers resided here making a variety of items in the 1200s. Over the centuries this art form has remained alive and beautiful glass pieces are still produced on the island of Murano today.

Popular Murano Glass vases first appeared following the end of World War II. The industry began to focus on interior design items with some of the old glass blowing techniques, including filigree, murrino, and lattimo. These vases were designed for simplicity and functionality in the home. Many of these beautiful and colorful techniques are still employed in todays Murano Glass vases.

Two of the things that people love about decorating with Murano Glass vases are their unique shapes and color techniques. A Murano Glass vase can serve its purpose as a container for flowers in your home, or it can be put on display as a beautiful interior design item. Some people collect the most interesting Murano Glass vases they can find to display in collectors cases at their homes. There are colors and designs available to match and home dcor. The price of Murano Glass vases will vary based on size, color, and design. The price of a Murano Glass vase may also depend on whether it is a newly made piece or antique collectors item.

Things that were once novelty or regular household items become prized collectors items over time. One antique item with a riches to rags to riches story is Carnival Glass. This article will introduce you to the history and collecting of Carnival Glass

What is Carnival Glass? Its a form of iridescent glass that became very popular in the late 1800s. The technology for making iridescent glass has existed since the time of the Romans. When manufacturing this item the glass is melted down and pressed into a shaped mold. The glass is removed when firm but not yet cool. A mixture of mineral salts is sprayed onto the glass to finish off the piece and give it that rainbow iridescent look. Tiffanys produced expensive versions of this glass in the late 1800s when these looks were extremely popular. At the time the manufacturing process was still expensive to complete.

In 1907 the first commercial piece of Carnival Glass was produced by the Fenton Brothers in the United States. A cheaper way of manufacturing the product had been developed, and pieces could now be priced in the reach of ordinary Americans. Carnival Glass gets its name from the time when the product became less popular and was given away as prizes for carnival games. This type of glass is still produced today, so the collecting of these items is largely based on when the Carnival Glass was created. Pieces made before 1960 will have a much higher value than those created after.

Collecting Carnival Glass can be a somewhat difficult process. This type of collection require a lot of research into the item and very careful selection of pieces. Many earlier lines of Carnival Glass do not have markings or seals that would identify them as authentic. They are identified only by their style as different styles were used for different lines. Some pieces made in later years were tagged which can make collection easier. Its recommended that you purchase a guide book and attend collectors meetings before you attempt to buy your first piece.

Collecting antique Carnival Glass has become popular in the last decade. Collectors love the beauty and nostalgia of these pieces. Many companies produced these pieces in the early 1900s. One of the most famous Carnival Glass companies among collectors is The Fenton Art Glass Company. This article will introduce you to their history and products.

The Fenton Art Glass Company was created in 1905 by Frank and John Fenton. The company was originally based in Ohio and created designs on blank glass slabs from other manufacturers. In 1908 the company moved to Virginia and built a factory that allowed them to form their own glass slabs and designs. Frank provided the design expertise while John was responsible for all of their business interactions. Some of their first pieces became very well known after a chemist helped them to create new beautiful color techniques for their glass.

Among The Fenton Art Glass Companys most popular items are their Carnival Glass pieces. Collectors will remember these as being prizes for carnival games or novelties places in detergent boxes. In later years their popularity grew with their Hobnail Milk Glass items. The company began to recognize the collectors market for their items and produced a dating system that helped collectors determine time periods for Fenton pieces. The company is still open and operating now, and its earlier items are hot in the collectors market.

Where can you find Fenton Art Glass? This type of art glass can be easier and cheaper to collect than many other antique items. This is because current estate sales will almost always include a few Fenton Art Glass items at a moderate price. Most families do not realize the value of their loved ones items and give them away or sell for low prices. You may also be able to save money on these items by using online bidding sites. The variety of items on these sites will be much larger than estate sales. Just remember to use a guide and determine if the item is genuine and in good condition before purchasing.

If you are interested in collecting antique pottery, you may want to consider starting with a American Art Pottery collection. These collections consist of pieces made between the late 1800s and early to mid 1900s in America. They were made as a form of decoration more than for functionality. One of the most beautiful sets of American Art Pottery is made by the Hull Pottery Company. This article will introduce you to the history of Hull Pottery and its collection.

The Hull Pottery Company originally started out as the Acme Pottery Company in 1903. In 1905 is was acquired by Addis Hull in Zonesville, Ohio. The name of the company was changed and its focus was placed in stoneware. The company also created a line of matte finish florist pieces that became popular in the 1920s. After a factory fire in the 1950s, Hull Pottery Company had to bring in new equipment that couldnt produce the pastel matte finish they were famous for. They switched to a high gloss finish and had a few successful lines based in dinnerware and household items. The company officially closed its doors in 1985.

One of the most popular line ever produced by the Hull Pottery Company was its Little Red Riding Hood line. It was produced in 1943 and consisted of cookie jars, salt pepper shakers, butter tubs, and pitchers. Most popular of all were its cookie jars. The character little red riding hood was used in different positions or actions to make these pieces. The work on this line was shared with a company called Regal China Pottery, but it is still considered to be a production of the Hull Pottery Company.

When youre collecting Hull Pottery, its a good idea to have a collectors encyclopedia to compare pieces to. If you purchase online youll want to ask a lot of questions and request pictures of coloring, shape, and markings on pieces. Authentic Hull Pottery pieces will have HULL, HULL ART, or HULL ART USA markings on them. They will also have a number or letter and number that signifies their line. Also, make sure to request pictures of the interior of any pitcher or cookie jar pieces. Common places for damage are the inside of these pieces and underneath their lids. Purchasing pieces in person will always give you the best chance at authenticating the item.

If you have started planning for your Mccoy Pottery collection, a few questions may have already come to mind. One question that many first time collectors have is how to determine what to pay for authentic antique Mccoy Pottery pieces. Two sets of tips will help you determine appropriate pricing. The first set are tips determining the price of antique pottery in general, and the second set of tips are specific to Mccoy Pottery.

In general, antique pottery will be priced by its size, shape, condition, and beauty. You will notice that large pieces of antique pottery will have a much higher price than small trinket items. If the piece has a unique shape, that will also add to its value. The condition of a pottery piece will have the biggest effect on its price and value in your collection. It is generally not worth it to purchase any pieces that have cracks, chips, stains, or other flaws. You will almost always be able to find the same piece for purchase in excellent condition somewhere else.

Antique Mccoy Pottery pieces are some of the higher priced pieces of American antique pottery. The time period in which these pieces were made can have a big impact on their price. If you are on a tighter budget, your choice of time period will be something to consider. Once you have selected the line or set of Mccoy Pottery you want, you may want to purchase a buyers guide. These guides are updated each year and contain average list prices for Mccoy Pottery pieces. It may also benefit you to join a local antique pottery collectors association. They have yearly displays, auctions, and meetings about how to collect and pricing of certain items.

There are two avenues you can try when you want to save money on your Mccoy Pottery pieces. The first would be bidding for authentic pieces in online auctions. Some of these auctions will start with low bids, and you can hope to collect the piece for cheaper then the average sale price. The second would be to explore many different antique shops and malls. Its still possible for some antique booth owners to be unaware of the value of their pottery items, allowing you to purchase them cheaply. In either case, be sure of authenticity and the condition of the piece before purchase!

Collecting Red Wing Pottery is a cherished hobby for many. Collecting pottery may seem simple, but one has to be well versed in the price, condition, and authenticity of the items. Red Wing Pottery has specific attributes that allow you to determine its authenticity. This article will introduce you to these attributes and how they can help you choose authentic pieces.

The first thing you may want to do before starting your collection is to research the history and lines of Red Wing Pottery. By looking over the history of these items you will find that several different stamps were used to define what time period and area they belong to. These stamps are usually located underneath the glaze and on hidden parts of these pottery pieces. The two most popular stamps you will find at the Red Wing, and the Red Wing with a raised star. The first was a stamp used for lines made in the 1870s and the second was used on lines made from 1892-1896. There are a few more stamps that you may want to research for lines created in the early to mid 1900s. The company shut its doors in 1967, so any pieces made after that date are not authentic!

Another way to tell that a Red Wing Pottery piece is authentic is by its look and price. This is where your research of different Red Wing lines will come in handy. Bring pictures and Red Wing Pottery books with you when you are purchasing pieces in person. Compare carefully and look for a time stamp. The price of Red Wing Pottery will almost always be moderately expensive. There are price guides available online that show the average price of any pieces you may want to purchase. If the price of the piece youre looking at is far off from these averages, be weary of the authenticity of the piece.

Collecting Red Wing Pottery can be an expensive hobby for some. Because of this, some people may be interested in collecting reproductions of authentic pieces. Does it make sense to collect reproductions? Sure, if you are more interested in the look of the items and not the value of the collection. Reproductions will be much cheaper and can create that antique look in your home.

Collecting antique pottery serves as a wonderful hobby for many. Its often difficult to decide what type of pottery one is going to spend their time collecting. A popular type of collectible antique pottery is Red Wing Pottery. Its unique look and quality attracts collectors of all types. Before getting started with a Red Wing Pottery collection, its important to look at the history and collecting tips for this item.

The history of Red Wing Pottery is part of its appeal for collectors. This particular pottery gets its name from the city where it was produced; Red Wing, Minnesota. In 1868 the Red Wing Stoneware Company was started and was followed by the opening of the Minnesota Stoneware Company in 1878. In 1892 these two companies merged to form The Red Wing Union Stoneware Company. This company was one of the largest producers of utilitarian stoneware items in the United States. In 1936 the company changed its name to Red Wing Pottery Inc. and produced several lines of popular painted stoneware until the popularity of these items declined in the 1950s.

How do you choose which line of Red Wing Pottery you will collect? You may want to do some research first by purchasing a Red Wing Pottery book or searching for the different lines on the Internet. You will be able to find which lines are the most valuable and the average price of each collectible piece. You can also choose by selecting the pattern that most appeals to you. Pieces in good condition with advertising, such as jars or beaters used in old country stores, are some of the most popular to collect today.

There are several places where you can locate and purchase Red Wing Pottery. Its currently popular for collectors to buy or bid on these items online. Make sure that any pieces you purchase online are listed as being in good condition with pictures. Pieces will lose their value if they are damaged. You may also be able to find moderately priced Red Wing Pottery at antique shops. Just be sure that what you find is an original and not a reproduction! Some collectors say that the best place to purchase quality Red Wing Pottery is to attend the Annual Red Wing Collectors Society convention in Red Wing, Minnesota.
